Bundesliga club FC Augsburg has started preparing for the new season. The five newcomers Finn Dahmen, Patric Pfeiffer, Sven Michel, Tim Breithaupt and Masaya Okugawa were there in Augsburg. However, Okugawa trained individually after breaking his collarbone.
The offensive forces Mergim Berisha and Ermedin Demirovic were missing. Berisha is not fit again after an injury from the previous season, Demirovic had an operation on the lateral meniscus at the beginning of June.
In the case of national striker Berisha, it is still unclear whether he will attack for FCA in the new season. The 25-year-old has been signed by the Swabians after a loan, but there has been repeated speculation about a change.
Augsburg hopes to profit from Berisha sale
According to reports, an amount of four million euros was due as a fee for the 25-year-old striker – FC Augsburg will therefore make a profit from a sale. With nine goals, Berisha was Augsburg’s top scorer in the past Bundesliga season. In the international matches against Peru and Belgium, the U21 European champions made their debut in the senior national team in March.
After 15th place last season, the Augsburgers want to achieve a better placement this season. A long worry about staying in the class should be avoided this time. For coach Maassen’s team, the third weekend in August starts with a home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The newcomers also want to position themselves before the start of the season. Defender Pfeiffer came from SV Darmstadt 98, goalkeeper Dahmen from 1. FSV Mainz 05 and midfielder Breithaupt from Karlsruher SC. The offensive should be strengthened by former Union Berlin attacker Michel and Okugawa, who was brought in from Bielefeld.
