The social media service Twitter will soon become the snow of last winter. Or at least that’s how it seems when Instagram, owned by Meta, releases a service called “Twitter’s killer” called Threads.

This is what Threads looks like. Screenshot from Apple’s app store.

In Threads, users focus on talking, just like on Twitter. The New York Times says, that Meta characterizes the service as a “sensibly managed” version of a certain social media. Meta’s comment can be understood as a wink at the owner of Twitter For Elon Musk.

The service will be available on Thursday for Apple devices. This is coming later for Android. Threads can be found under the name “Threads, an Instagram app”

“Let’s hit their bread and butter”

Musk’s confusing reforms and the service’s vague practices have driven numerous advertisers and users to other platforms.

The chaos caused by Musk’s actions has made Twitter’s competitors wake up to the possibilities, and several alternatives have also been introduced to the service. Threads strikes this chaos at just the right time to take over from Twitter.

– LET’S HIT THEIR BREAD AND BUTTER, one of Meta’s employees wrote in December, NOW tells.

A particularly well-known service similar to Twitter at the moment has been Mastodon. Former Twitter employees also launched a service called Bluesky, which is still in the development stage.

Twitter’s latest reform limited the daily number of browsed Tweets. According to Musk, the reform is temporary and is intended to limit the collection of user data.

Criticism for Metal

However, without chewing, users are not receiving against Threads. The amount of data collected by the service has sparked a lot of discussion on Twitter.

As the biggest difference to Twitter, Threads also requires access to health data, financial data and other personally identifiable information collected by the device.

The collected data will probably be used for targeted advertising, as in other Meta services.
