In the recovery of the 17th day, fifth victory in six games since the arrival of Dutchman Roijakkers. The Reggiana playmaker closes with 27 points, 11 assists and 9 rebounds
REGGIO EMILIA-VARESE 82-84
A Sorokas basket 2.8 seconds from the siren gives Varese the success over Reggio Emilia in the recovery of the 17th day. For the team of coach Roijakkers, with their fifth victory in six games, the performances of Vene (23 points and 26 points) and Keene (14 points) were also fundamental. For the hosts, however, the umpteenth test at the limits of reality was not enough for Cinciarini who placed his career high in points (27), with 47 evaluation, touching the second consecutive triple double (11 assists and 9 rebounds) after having been the first Italian ever to make one just five days ago against Treviso.
The start of the Openjobmetis is overwhelming and Roijakkers’ team closes the first quarter on +10, with two triples each for Woldetensae and Vene. Unahotels, however, tightens the shirts in defense and reacts by placing a 10-0 break signed by Crawford and Strautins. At half-time the game is essentially in balance (45-48) as well as the duel between Cinciarini (17 points) and Vene (16). The third quarter is played at a very high pace, with continuous changes in front and Olisevicius and Keene who compete with triple shots (67-69 at 30 ‘). Varese tries to run away thanks to Beane (72-76 at 34 ‘), but an irrepressible Cinciarini raises his team by taking them to overtake (77-76 at 36’). With three seconds left and with the score tied, Sorokas grabs the rebound in attack and then scores from below. Hopkins ‘last shot barely breaks the iron and Roijakkers’ team gives themselves another fairytale evening.
Reggio Emilia: Cinciarini 27, Olisevicius 18, Strautins 10
Varese: Vene 23, Keene 14, Sorokas 13.
