There was a scandal at the Diamond League race in Stockholm when protesters got onto the running track.
Activists sitting at the end of the men’s 400-meter hurdles spread sheets on the running tracks. Norwegian superstar Karsten Warholm was able to run to the finish line as a winner without coming into contact with the protesters.
Two runners instead had to run through the sheets. The athletes were not injured in the situation.
Warholm was happy with the victory, but was hot about the scandalous rapture.
– First I was amazed, and then I was furious. That is completely idiotic and reprehensible. They have the right to protest, but that’s completely the wrong way.
– It is unfair to athletes who train all year round for these games, Warholm said for SVT.
Also a Swedish discus thrower Daniel Ståhl grunted.
– Something like this shouldn’t happen, that the Diamond League competition will be vandalized and the competition destroyed, Ståhl grumbled.
The demonstrators belonged to the environmental organization Återställ våtmarker, which has previously demonstrated at Melodifestivalen, for example.
Race director Jan Kowalski according to which the case is taken seriously.
– We were aware that this could happen. However, we are not allowed to put fences on all sides of the stadium to prevent people from entering. It’s practically impossible.
– The activists were arrested as soon as they were on the track and there were enough policemen on the scene. We know their identity and we will file a criminal complaint, Kowalski said For Expressen.
