The carnage was stopped in the 11th round with a technical knockout, and Martínez got to keep the IBF flyweight championship belt.
“I just kept hammering the ear and that ended this match. The stronger man won, and that was me, the Argentinian stated after the match.
Martínez was surprised that the match was not stopped earlier.
– I’ve never seen anything like that. I hit him with my left hand, and the ear popped, it exploded. I even told the judge to be careful. I think it really hurt.
However, the referee allowed the match to continue, and Martínez showed no mercy. The Argentinian continued to grind his ear.
– I tried to finish the match. I chased blood like a shark.
Martínez, 31, has now fought in the professional ring 16 times and left the ring victorious 16 times. Nine of the matches have already ended before full time.
Filipino Bornean, 28, has a professional record of 19 fights, 18 wins, one loss. 12 of the wins have come by knockout.
