New batch of bakers freshly graduated: “Many are afraid of night work”

Today 139 recently graduated bakers throw their hats in the air. “It’s hard to understand for people who don’t have a passion for it,” says Thomas Vanfleteren.

Fear of night work

The fire for the baker’s craft is certainly not extinguished yet. Good thing too, because the West Flemish bakers’ federation currently has barely 300 bakers.

Night work scares many young people. “But you don’t always have to get up at night anymore. You can also bake perfectly during the day with the new techniques and new machines,” explains Iris Cornette.
