John de Mol’s SBS 6 finally seems to succumb to outside pressure: Peter Gillis seems to be on his way to the exit. “He just doesn’t need the reality star anymore.”
John de Mol has kept his channel star Peter Gillis’ hand above his head for a long time. Apparently the advantages outweighed the disadvantages for him, but the viewing figures of his reality series Family Gillis: Massa is Kassa are no longer that good. And then John de Mol’s loyalty disappears like snow in the sun…
14 percent for Gillis
In addition to the public pressure to stop with Peter, there is also a declaration from his ex-lover Nicol Kremers and a summons to take all old episodes offline. SBS 6 is now finally choosing eggs for its money and announces that it will only make a decision about a sequel to its soap after the judge’s ruling.
And we now know that such a statement can take a very long time to come. In other words: Peter Gillis is exit. The last episode attracted 505 thousand viewers last Tuesday and that has now, a week later, grown to 629 thousand viewers and a market share of 14 percent in the commercial target group.
Reasonable ratings
Those are excellent viewing figures for SBS 6, but perhaps not enough to swallow all the Gillis muck, thinks viewing figure expert Tina Nijkamp. She writes: “Reasonable figures, but not very good. There will likely be three more episodes, including tonight. Then the curtain falls for the Family Gillis reality soap. At least for now and for this year.”
She continues: “But with the continued negative coverage, it doesn’t look positive for afterwards either. John de Mol no longer needs the program for market shares. He now has VI (and now also Marcel and Gijs every day). That makes the need for a soap opera like Family Gillis less.”
Marcel & Gijs scores
Marcel & Gijs continues to do well on SBS 6. Also yesterday, a considerable number of people watched with 505 thousand viewers. They score 13 percent market share in the commercial target group.
Tina: “The upward trend continues. This is the second highest score ever. Only the first episode scored higher with 611 thousand viewers.”
