A boy with a kitchen knife robbed the Spar on the Zonnelaan in Groningen on Tuesday afternoon. The owner is sober: “Fortunately, no one was injured.”
The boy had handed in a few cans in the bottle machine. When he exchanged the deposit receipt at the checkout, he pulled a kitchen knife from his bag, says owner Frank Vegter. His wife was at the back of the small supermarket, but did not notice the robbery: “There was no commotion, everyone remained calm.”
The robber demanded money and then ran out the door. According to a neighbor to the other side, where someone else was waiting for a bicycle. Then they ran away with the loot. He dropped a bag.
It wasn’t until the robber ran away that the cashier shouted that there was a robbery. Another customer had already called the police. The police reported that they were looking for one suspect in the vicinity of the store. They left the store an hour and a half later, without a suspect.
Vegter and his wife, the owners of the store, remain sober about it. “Luckily there were no casualties, that’s the most important thing. And we know the area.”
