New Club World Cup 2025: the rules and the Italians. And Inter…

The first edition of the renewed event will give 100 million to the winner. In addition to the Nerazzurri, Juve, Milan or Naples are in contention

Inter have to “make an effort” really hard not to go to the Fifa Club World Cup which debuts in 2025. And it would be a huge waste. There are no official figures yet, but in Zurich they have been working for years on the project launched by Infantino and Boban (when they worked at Fifa): the prize pool for the first edition should be around 2.5 billion, and at least 2 should be distributed to the 32 finalists. In short, the champion could collect a figure close to 100 million, like a Champions League, but in a month. Probably, in addition to Inter, there will be another Italian: Juve, Milan and Naples are competing for the precious place.

ranking it

The tournament is held every four years. It begins in the USA in June 2025: 8 groups of 4 teams, the first 2 progress to the quarterfinals and continue like this until the final. Europe qualifies 12 teams: the 4 winners of the ’21, ’22, ’23 and ’24 Champions League and the 8 with the best UEFA ranking in the same four-year period. Chelsea, Real Madrid and City (champions) are sure. Thanks to the ranking, Bayern (84 points) are also inside. Psg (66) and Inter (60) are the first pursuers: a good Champions League – understood as a passage to the second round – would give them arithmetical security. With the 2024 champions we are down to 7 teams. There are 5 left. At the moment the standings are as follows: Benfica 49, Juve 47, Porto 45, Borussia 44, Barcelona 42. But…

champions only

Two things. Meanwhile, a championship cannot bring more than two teams (unless it has three or four champions): Liverpool have a coefficient close to Bayern but, with Chelsea and City qualified, they are out. And then the next Champions League will change the standings. Milan (35 points) and Napoli (29) can overcome the black and whites and conquer the other Italian place in theory available. More difficult for Lazio which is at an altitude of 21. The Italians must also beware of Leipzig (39), Seville (36), Salzburg (30). Juve will not increase its coefficient because the Fifa indication is that only the points won in the Champions League and not in Europe and the Conference League count, even if a detailed regulation does not yet exist.
