Possibly explosive found in building Eelde. Missing confused man reports to police

The Explosives Clearance Service Defense (EOD) found a possible explosive device in a building on Oosterbroek in Eelde on Monday afternoon. It was detonated shortly afterwards at a safe distance.

The find was discovered after a confused man from the village reported to the police. Police launched a search for the man Monday afternoon.

According to police spokesperson Matthijs van Houten, he would have made threats in a confused state. “In the end, the man reported himself to the station and said that there would be an explosive in the building. The EOD then entered the building and actually found an object.”

According to Van Houten, it is still being investigated whether it is actually an explosive. Appropriate help is being sought for the man.

An eyewitness to the explosion speaks of a ‘small bang’.
