Princess Diana’s famous sheep sweater is up for auction

An iconic red sheepskin sweater worn by Princess Diana is set to go under the hammer. As the auction house Sotheby’s announced on Monday, the garment will be auctioned in New York on September 7th. It is estimated that the sweater with many white and one black sheep on a red background will achieve the equivalent of up to 82,000 euros.

Diana’s appearance made the hitherto little-known label “Warm & Wonderful” of the couple Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne suddenly famous. A few weeks later, the pullover worn by Diana was returned by Buckingham Palace because it was damaged and they were asked to repair it or replace it. Diana then got a new one. The whereabouts of the original garment was unknown for years until it was rediscovered in an attic this year. The sweater still has a touch of Princess Diana’s “grace, charm and her good eye for fashion,” said Cynthia Houlton, who is responsible for fashion and accessories at Sotheby’s, according to a statement from the auction house.
