Middelkerke inaugurates new promenade

Mayor of Middelkerke, Jean-Marie Dedecker is impressed by the new seawall. “The new promenade breathes space and greenery, without sacrificing amenity value. It will also be a lot safer on the dike, because all obstacles and terraces will shift to the side of the retaining wall. There is much more free space and thanks to the combination of the organic materials and the abundance of greenery give the whole a natural feel. The new promenade is a beautiful showcase for Westende-Bad.”

For everyone

The new promenade is a piece of work by Philip Moyersoen of MOPurbandesign. “I dare to say that this dike is a ‘game changer’ for coastal defense on the Belgian coast… A sea dike for all residents, schools, athletes, children and the elderly and tourists. We come to the sea for greenery, ‘mental’ peace, experience and lots of sun. The coast of the future is flexible, climate-adaptive and, above all, close to nature,” says Moyersoen enthusiastically.

The dike is 1650 meters long and has more than 20,000 plants.
