Milan, the offer is ready for Frattesi: Colombo to Sassuolo

As soon as Tonali signs, off to the negotiation. Possible deal with money and a player: the ex Lecce very welcome, Maldini jr alternative

Luca Bianchin

At least with padel, everything is clear: Davide Frattesi won. Davide, very blond, in an Instagram story published yesterday rejoices after winning a game on vacation. He is dressed in red and black and has the same technical sponsor as Milan. It’s a coincidence, all right, but in the big transfer match it works like in padel: there are four players and often the one who makes the least mistakes wins. The four entered in the race are Milan, Inter, Juventus and Rome but Milan have the ball in their field. Sassuolo awaits him. The times The CEO of Sassuolo, Giovanni Carnevali, in the middle of next week will meet Giorgio Furlani, AC Milan counterpart. They will negotiate, it is evident. Before understanding how, however, a premise: Milan, before talking about Frattesi, must close the sale of Sandro Tonali. The meeting with Newcastle led to a total handshake but the bureaucracy is at work and the signature hasn’t arrived yet. Tonali will play with Italy Under 21 tonight and in short, it won’t be a simple Sunday: the idea of closing in the day is there but everything can be postponed to tomorrow.

AND NOW DERBY

Milan were burned by Inter two days ago on Marcus Thuram: they were convinced of taking him, then Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio forced them. And Thuram chose Inter. Furlani and Moncada have to decide whether to do everything to respond with Frattesi. There is interest – Milan likes Frattesi a lot – as well as the drive. Inter has reached an agreement in principle with Sassuolo for 35 million, with Samuele Mulattieri suspected of moving from the nerazzurri (indeed, from the loan to Frosinone) to Sassuolo. However, the request now is 40 million, quite a few for Milan, who are forced to buy two or three midfielders, one or two offensive wingers on the right, an attacking midfielder, a striker. However, a solution can be found and there would be a romantic touch because Silvio Berlusconi was one of Frattesi’s great admirers. Years ago he summoned Carnevali to Arcore and for a day he tried to convince him to sell Davide to Monza. Nothing done.

COLUMBUS

Sassuolo is interested in three AC Milan players. The main one is Lorenzo Colombo, striker from 2002, in his last season in Lecce. Colombo is a typical Sassuolo profile: striker, Italian, young, with the possibility of growing a lot. The first real season in Serie A ended with 5 goals and some flashes like the penalty-saving in Monza. Lecce bought him back but Milan exercised the counter-buy with just €500,000 more. Colombo has a value not far from 10 million euros which could lower the price of Frattesi. Hypothesizing a deal worth 30 million plus Lorenzo is possible.

MALDINI-POBEGA

The alternative is Daniel Maldini, who played in La Spezia last season scoring only two goals, but noble ones. Nobles: to Milan and Inter. Look at that, always them. Sassuolo appreciates and in this strange story the protagonist is always the same: Giuseppe Riso, agent of Tonali, Frattesi, Colombo and Maldini. The third way, Tommaso Pobega, seems less feasible. Sassuolo give him a thumbs up – there is approval – but it’s hard to imagine that Tommaso would say yes to Sassuolo after a championship at Milan. Not to mention that Milan currently have names counted in midfield – Tonali departed, Bennacer injured, Adli out, Vranckx not redeemed… – and a player trained in the youth field is also useful for the Champions League list.

FOUR FOR ONE

Frattesi fans can rest today (and maybe go play padel like him): unless there are surprises, nothing will happen. From tomorrow, however, the decisive week will begin. Between the end of June and the beginning of July this story will end and the positions are currently clear. Roma were the first team to move but today they have fewer chances than the others. Juventus met Sassuolo and made it known that they are willing to include Matias Soulé or Koni De Winter in the deal. Inter are the historic favourites, who are now measuring their steps. He has an advantage: thanks to Marcus Thuram, he won’t have to spend for Edin Dzeko’s replacement. Soon he will give up Onana and Brozovic, arriving at the final table with a full wallet. Carnevali, very serene, will listen to everyone, talk to Frattesi and choose. Whatever happens, for Sassuolo, it will be a success.
