Stijn Vreven is the new coach at KV Oostende

KV Oostende has appointed Stijn Vreven (49) as head coach. Vreven signed a contract for an indefinite period and will lead the training sessions from Wednesday. The further staff will be determined soon, but for the time being the current staff members will all remain on post.

Stijn Vreven himself also provides explanations on the club’s website: “First and foremost, I am grateful to Belisia Bilzen for letting me leave for Ostend. For me it was an opportunity I didn’t want to pass up. Not only because KVO plays two series higher than Bilzen, but mainly because I had good conversations with Nils Vanneste and we are on the same wavelength. We share the same football vision and, moreover, the club is ambitious to take a shot at promotion. In addition, the accommodation at the training complex is really impressive. Enough reasons for me to choose this club wholeheartedly. I remember both as a player and as a trainer that it was never an easy match at Ostend. I want to get that feeling back in the first instance, that the opponents do not like to come and play here and that we draw the fans into our enthusiasm from the first minute. If you show on the field that you are going for it, it always reflects on the audience. I am already looking forward to the first test matches so that I can get to know everyone better.”

SV Belisia already solved the news

The Limburg club from Bilzen did not wait for the ink to dry on the contract that Vreven will sign on the coast. Just before 6 p.m., the Limburgers themselves communicate:

Already a nice career

Vreven has already had a nice career. As a player of, among others, KV Mechelen, AA Gent, Utrecht and Vitesse and two-time ‘Red Devil’, Stijn Vreven was known as an unyielding right back with an over-my-corpse mentality and leadership qualities. It is these qualities that he also wants to transfer to his group of players as a trainer. As a trainer, Vreven earned his stripes at Lommel, Waasland Beveren, NAC and Beerschot, among others. The Limburger achieved results at every club: with Lommel he finished second in the second division and with Waasland Beveren he achieved a handsome twelfth place in the first division. With NAC Breda he was promoted to the Dutch Eredivisie, something that just failed with Beerschot after he lost the promotion matches against KV Mechelen. He would start next season at Belisia Bilzen (second amateur) but they are now giving him this Ostend adventure in 1B.
