Gordon is still under contract with SBS 6 for another six months, but the final of Wat Een Invention was his last job for the channel last week. “Get off to Dubai or Bali!”
The conflict between Gordon and John de Mol – he says he has been put on a criminal bench by the media billionaire – leads to an uncomfortable farewell to the entertainer at SBS 6. There is no warm goodbye after the grand finale of his last show Wat Een Invention . In fact, he gets a big kick from his broadcaster colleague Evert Santegoeds.
“Who wants Gordon?”
Evert, one of the main faces of the show section on SBS 6, thinks Gordon is over. He says in the podcast Strictly Private: “Yeah, that looks bleak for that TV career. Then he can say: ‘I will be producing my own programs from now on’, but yes, the big question then is: who is going to broadcast them?”
The commercials are probably not so keen on collaborating with the difficult entertainer, thinks Evert. “It is not obvious that Talpa or RTL will do that, because there will undoubtedly be a price tag if Gordon thinks: I will do it myself. He generally doesn’t keep his hand on the purse strings.”
“Get off to Dubai!”
Is Gordon worth all those TV tons at all? “No. The figures indicate that the country is a bit done with Gordon and someone who is also constantly criticizing his patron and also his country, people think: fuck off to Dubai or Bali and stay there. He is doing that a lot.”
He concludes: “I believe he has started his world tour again. Well, he should finish that one, but what he will live on, that is still the question. It was a very lucrative contract that he had and that is getting closer by the day.”
