Hockey women in EM form – second win in London

Status: 06/19/2023 10:59 p.m

Around two months before the European Championships at home in Mönchengladbach (August 18th to 27th), the German women’s hockey team is already in good shape. In the Pro League, the team of national coach Valentin Altenburg celebrated the second victory within 96 hours against the host Great Britain with a 4:1 (2:1) victory.

After the 2-0 win at the same place, the “Danas” seamlessly followed up on the strong performance from last Friday. Hanna Granitzki (1st) from Vice-Champion Club an der Alster and Großflottbeker Jette Fleschütz (5th) ensured a reassuring lead before the Brits managed to catch up (22nd).

Granitzki’s club-mate Victoria Huse restored a two-goal lead shortly after the break after a penalty corner. Three minutes before the end of the game, Pauline Heinz (57th) from Rüsselsheim eliminated all the guests’ doubts.

England also at the EM opponents

At the European Championship tournament, Altenburg’s team will also meet the British in group B of the preliminary round. In contrast to the Pro League and the Olympic Games, England and Scotland compete separately in Mönchengladbach. The German team’s third group opponent is Ireland.

The German men are also staying on the Thames for a Pro-League brace against Great Britain. On Tuesday (1.10 p.m.) the team of national coach Andre Henning aims to make amends for the 0:3 defeat last Saturday.
