In the past six days, a total of 95,014 positive test results came in at the institute. That’s more than the seven days before that. The high weekly figure may be slightly distorted, because last Wednesday’s figures may have turned out higher due to a disturbance the day before.
In the past six days, an average of 15,835 new corona cases were added per day. If the number of new infections from this Tuesday is added to that, the total number of positive tests from the past week could therefore come to almost 111,000. A week earlier, RIVM registered a total of 84,398 new corona cases.
Last week, the RIVM, which provides a weekly overview of the development of the pandemic, was able to report a decrease compared to the week before. But then the rate of that decline already seemed to be slowing down.
The institute expects an increase in infection figures due to the advance of the presumably more contagious omicron variant of the virus.
