Five pubs in Assen start the TT week with ‘Ask for Angela’. Ask for Angela and the catering staff know to come to the rescue.
“Hi, is Angela there too?” The woman or man asking this question wants to indicate that she or he is being harassed, sexually or otherwise.
“It is important to separate the man or woman who is being harassed. He or she can then calmly tell the story. Then we look at what we have to do,” says Carlijn Rhymer.
Rhymer owns one of the five catering establishments in Assen for the project Ask for Angela are trained to recognize and prevent sexually harassing behavior.
The project, which came over from England, is one of the measures taken by the municipality of Assen to combat street intimidation. After a few weeks, the results are evaluated.
