For Dalle, the figure, but also the reporting itself, is a “wake-up call” for the media sector. “Only 72 companies reported incidents of transgressive behavior, which is part of last year’s commitment statement,” he says. “155 media organizations signed that action plan. Cases of transgressive behavior were reported in one third of the organizations that reported. And perhaps those 23 cases are just the tip of the iceberg.”
The action plan came about in the aftermath of the Bart De Pauw case. The charter that was proposed on Friday, with an accompanying website with tips for journalists on how to report on transgressive behaviour, was one of the points to be realized in that plan.
