Ella Junnila competed on Tuesday in Turku with a smile on her face. He believes that change will bring success.
Ella Junnila there was one smile at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku on Tuesday.
Junnila was fifth in the race with her best result of the season, 187. The goal was to break the 190 centimeter barrier, but the athlete who holds the Finnish record was not too disappointed.
– There has been development in each of the four races of the season. You have to be satisfied with that, praised Junnila.
Junnila made a significant change for this season. Earlier, he took to the jump with a flying eight steps. Now he leaves his place and goes to the bar with ten steps.
The purpose is to minimize the effect of different platforms and days on the performance.
– It has succeeded quite well considering that I have only jumped in the spring and four races with this. Before the start of the competition season, I got a few full-speed jump trainings. Looks like the decision was right, and this works.

On Tuesday, heights of 178, 183 and 187 were crossed on the first attempt. Out of 191, Junnila dropped the bar three times.
– They were pretty good companies. Especially in the last one, I felt like I could get to the top quite well. It came up well. As I went straight up, there was some confusion at the crossing. My left buttock hit the bar.
– It took a couple of jumps in my own flash.
Junnila jumped three competitions in the indoor season, where the best result was 183. However, the indoor season ended already at the beginning of February.
The SE woman’s leg hurt at the end of January. It was later found out that he has a ligament injury in his ankle. The healing estimate was six weeks.
No more setbacks.
– I had a small tear in my ankle, but I was able to train on a normal schedule. The injury no longer has any effect. I have tape on my leg during the race, but it’s more of a precaution.
Junnilan’s SE 195 is from 2019.
Last season’s best result was 192. However, the summer ended in disappointment, as the Finn failed to qualify for both the European Championships and the World Championships. At the European Championship in Munich, an abdominal muscle cramp watered down the qualification.
On Tuesday, the SE woman had a smile on her face. There is still work to be done on the timing of getting on the bar, but the work is enjoyable.
– It has been a couple of more difficult years. Now, when I get to enjoy jumping… It’s nice to compete again. I can’t be mad that I want better and I know what to do differently. Jump below, and it will come from there.
Junnila will compete next time on Saturday in the Czech Republic.
