For Antonia Anastasiadi (35), everything suddenly makes sense with her jewelery label “Sister”. Born in Cypriot, she came to Berlin via London. She is actually a graphic designer – but she has always been fascinated by her home culture – and now connects Berlin with Cyprus through her jewellery!
Because every item in their small shop was made by two brothers in a factory in Cyprus: “George and Panagiotis have been making jewelery in the village of Lefkara since 1968. Inspired by the folk and religious history of Cyprus, the necklaces with the mythological symbols are talismans meant to offer protection and good luck to the wearer,” she says.
Cyprus is the birthplace of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and therefore a small sculpture of the goddess can also be found as a necklace pendant or earring.
Rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces – handmade does not have to be expensive: the pieces cost from 25 euros, the most expensive piece of jewelry, earrings made of solid gold, costs 195.50 euros.
Now she also offers the so-called “Permanent Jewellery”. “The wearers choose an anklet or bracelet from eleven variants or a ring, which is then flashed directly on site in the studio“.
Flashed means soldered: the jewelry can no longer be removed, it is intended to symbolize the bond between the wearers – whether friends or lovers. “Of course you can cut them in emergencies,” adds Toni. The chains can also be combined with each other individually, they are the only jewelry that is not handmade in Cyprus.
