Wildwest shooting in Roosendaal was an argument between two families

The only suspect who was still detained for the controversial shooting in Roosendaal at the beginning of March has been released. But under strict conditions. His brother is still a fugitive. It seems more and more that the shooting revolved around a feud between two families that is fought out by groups of brothers.

The shooting was on March 6 in broad daylight in the Philipslaan in Roosendaal. Five men fought in the middle of the street. They hit each other with baseball bats and threw bricks. There was also shooting. A 19-year-old man was injured by a bullet in his hip.

In hiding
The suspected shooter Fouad el M. (32) fled and went into hiding. A few weeks after the shooting, the police arrested two other men.

They are two brothers of Fouad, it now appears. Aziz el M. (19) was soon released because his role seems limited and he probably knew nothing about the firearm his brother had with him. Aziz was silent during his interrogations.

keep silent
Adil el M. (35) remained stuck. He appeared in public for the first time in court in Breda on Friday. There was an interim court case about the shooting.

The man introduced himself calmly, at the request of the judge and then asked if he could say something beforehand. That was allowed. “I do not want to answer questions related to the suspicion, but I do want to answer social questions,” said El M. He then gave the floor to his lawyer.

Target
De Roosendaler is officially suspected of co-perpetrating attempted murder. And if that can’t be proven, then it’s attempted manslaughter or open violence.

The target was someone from the Roosendaal family B. That surname was also mentioned by the OM. The family has filed a complaint against the suspects.

The prosecutor said that the police and judiciary are still busy with the case. The problem is that the main suspect Fouad el M. is still missing. “We haven’t found him yet,” the prosecutor said.

Pre-trial detention
“We are going to make do with what we have or we will move on, we are in that phase.” The public prosecutor also could not say anything about when the file will be ready to be submitted to the court.

There is simply no idea yet about a date for a trial. That is often an important reason for a court to release someone from pre-trial detention. Because otherwise people will stay in the cell for an unnecessarily long time. Adil’s lawyer asked for his release so that he can return to work.

The officer did not resist. But the suspect is only allowed to go home under strict conditions. He has a contact ban from the court with all other brothers and the opposing party. He is also not allowed to enter certain streets in the Kalsdonk district of Roosendaal and in Sint Willebrord, where family members live.

Brothers
It is becoming increasingly clear that two Roosendaal families are fighting about something. Two groups of brothers battle it out. “There was an earlier argument,” Adil’s lawyer noted.

This shooting and later another on the Diamantdijk led to extra security measures in the city.
