Scorpion is one of the products in which Pirelli is investing the most, thanks to the possibility of transferring the know-how learned in rallies and in Formula 1: with the new generation of the tire intended for SUVs, the Casa della Bicocca aims to reach over 400 homologations in the first place. equipment, of which over 50% are intended for electric vehicles. The coverage of the car market with 18 “or larger rims thus reaches 95%, compared to 72% of the previous versions. The new Scorpions are at the top of the performances, as emerged from the tests of the certifying body TÜV SÜD, which has assigned the type its Performance Mark. Furthermore, the different sizes of Scorpion all fall within the A or B classes of the European label, therefore at the top in terms of rolling resistance and braking in the wet. Top performance also for the containment of noise.

LOWER CONSUMPTION

There are three versions: Summer, All Season SF2 and the brand new winter Winter 2. In addition to improved performance, the new Scorpions reduce the consumption of both traditional fuels and the energy consumption of electric car batteries. Among the pluses of the entire range is the innovative reinforced structure to support the high load transfers on the tires, so as to always have the right pressure in the footprint and allow a balanced and controllable response of the vehicle. The Summer has an asymmetrical tread pattern that allows 7% improved braking on both dry and wet surfaces compared to the previous one. The compound originates from the technological experience already applied to the new Cinturato P7, but is enriched with silica, specific resins to increase grip and functionalized polymers, i.e. innovative elastomeric materials to improve the interaction with the silica itself: they have the ability to change behavior based on operating temperatures. It is available in Europe with 26 launch sizes, from 18 to 21 “, with over 48 homologations, of which over 75% for electric vehicles.

HIGHER PRICES

The All Season SF2 version is instead available in this first phase in 33 sizes between 17 and 21 “, while the directional design of the tread is characterized by a strong presence of V-shaped grooves that retain the snow, thus favoring control of the vehicle on surfaces. Always when driving in winter and low-temperature conditions, the sipes of the tread remain open to facilitate better braking on snow, while when braking on dry or wet surfaces they close to generate greater grip. The compound features biphasic polymeric materials bonded to silica particles, for optimal use in a greater range of temperatures than the previous Scorpion. Finally, the Winter 2 guarantees a 20% increase in useful area for grip on snow compared to the previous one. This is because the sipes change shape based on the state of wear of the tread, allowing performance on snow, wet and dry even when worn. Here the compound is com also made of liquid polymers capable of increasing its performance in rain and snow compared to the previous product. As for pricing, the increase in performance leads to a 5-7% price increase over the previous product.
