Olympic Winter Games – Again no medal: Shiffrin is eliminated in a combination

Yanqing (AP) – US ski star Mikaela Shiffrin will end the Olympic Winter Games in China after another early exit without an individual medal.

The 26-year-old experienced the next disappointment in the alpine combination. After fifth place in the downhill, she ended up at the 13th gate in the slalom and didn’t finish.

As in 2018, gold went to the Swiss Michelle Gisin, 1.05 seconds ahead of her compatriot Wendy Holdener. Federica Brignone from Italy (+1.85) won the bronze medal. A German athlete was not at the start.

For Shiffrin, the games in China have been a debacle so far. Both in the giant slalom, in which she became Olympic champion in 2018, and in the slalom, which she won in 2014, she was eliminated early on in Yanqing as a favorite. She has the last chance to take a badge home with her at the team event on Saturday. It was initially unclear whether she would be nominated for it.

After ninth and 18th place in the Super-G and in the downhill, the American seemed a little more stable than in the days before, when she shed a lot of tears. In the downhill of the combination she worked out a good starting position for the decisive slalom on the skis, which she had received from the Olympic silver medalist Sofia Goggia from Italy. In her parade discipline, in which she has already celebrated four World Championship titles and 47 World Cup victories, she made a mistake and again missed her first medal of these games.
