I don’t like my emotions, what can I do?

Emotions are in everything we do, and they are the reasons why we do things. Whenever we set goals, we are looking for an emotion.

The biggest problems in our life do not come from a lack of knowledge, skills, but because we are in the wrong emotional state.

As Dr. López Rosetti says, we are emotional beings, now, have you ever thought about what emotions are? What is an emotion? Emotions are a chemical response of our body to different stimuli. It is the mind/body connection.

So, we could say that it is produced by our brain. Following this thought, no one can generate emotions in us, no one can make you change your emotional state. The answer as in everything, is in us. It depends on us that a situation or person affects us and alters our emotional state.

Emotions come from our thoughts and these from the beliefs that we feed daily in our head.

The good thing is that with practice and generating new neural connections they can be controlled.

Emotions respond to a triad: physiology, focus and language. Let’s see each one:

  • Physiology: it is our body language, how we stand, we move. If you walk into a room and I tell you to look for someone depressed, you will only focus on finding someone down, with shoulders turned in, back rounded, and a sad face. This is how our physiology determines our state of mind.
  • Focus: it is where we put our attention, if you focus on the positive or the negative. This is important, where do you focus? In the solution? Or in the problem?
  • Language: our internal language, what we say to ourselves, what we think; how I explained above it is determined by our beliefs.

If you want to change your emotions, you must change one of these components. It is important that you pay attention to the story that you are telling yourself daily, where you focus, and how you stand in front of life.

I propose an exercise: make a list of the emotions you want to feel during the day and work to feel that way.
