Farmers attract attention with a giant milk carton next to the A9 motorway

The Boeren van Amstel made a world record attempt today. They not only made the largest milk carton in the world, but also wanted to lift it 25 meters into the air. The farmers did not draw the proverbial milk. Despite the wind, the suit reached a height of 27 meters.

With the record attempt, the farmers are trying to draw positive attention to their profession again after all the negative nitrogen reporting. The farmers of Amstel are committed to nature conservation. Part of the proceeds from their milk is used to maintain and improve biodiversity in the Amstelland.

“It helps us to maintain the area and the meadow birds. And the farmers, because they make the area as beautiful as it is now,” says chairman Gert Roos.

Wind

The colossus of one and a half meters by one and a half meters and five meters high was hoisted up rocking around noon this afternoon. The crane that was used for this was borrowed by the farmers from Rijkswaterstaat. The organization also benefited from the success of the attempt. The suit was right next to a million-dollar project the widened highway A9 lifted up.

Of course, the necessary safety measures had been taken so that the suit could not really fall on the road or the public, but the wind made the attempt difficult. “We had attached safety ropes to it, because the wind will of course play with it. At one point they were so tight that we couldn’t actually go any higher,” says Michel Penterman of De Boeren van Amstel.

Even a bodybuilder who had to counterbalance was almost lifted into the air. “I had to brace myself,” she tells NH afterwards. Nevertheless, the attempt succeeds. “We went for 25 meters and secretly dreamed of 30. So we are very happy,” says Michel.

Incidentally, the farmers did not fill the package that went into the air today with milk. “That would be 11,250 liters of milk. A bit of a waste!” Michel laughs.
