Construction company Heijmans in Rosmalen can now call itself Royal and therefore changes its official name to Koninklijke Heijmans. The largest construction company in Brabant has existed for 100 years and that is why mayor Jack Mikkers of Den Bosch announced the new honorary title.
On April 3, 1923, a twenty-year-old road worker from Rosmalen started a one-man business in his own city. His name: Jan Heijmans. At that time, the very young Heijmans could not have dreamed of where his company is now. Especially after the Second World War, the Heijmans company had a strong wind at its back. Many orders were received from governments, such as Rijkswaterstaat, provinces and municipalities.
The company built many roads and contributed to the rehabilitation of Volkel airport, Gilze-Rijen and Welschap near Eindhoven.
At the end of 2000, Heijmans took over Koninklijke IBC, bringing it to the three largest construction companies in the Netherlands. After the sale of activities in Belgium and Germany in 2016 and 2017, the company is only active on the Dutch market. The company employs nearly 5,000 employees.
