Many eye-catchers at the Uitopia festival in Uitkerke

In the De Craene park in Uitkerke, near Blankenberge, the skeleton of a giant imaginary fish is gradually taking shape. Its name, the Craenhynchus, refers to the park. Everything is made from waste from a fish restaurant that is reused in this work of art. Paul Defer, artistic assistant: “The razor clams are the ribs, for the head we chose oyster shells. The details are very interesting, the teeth are recreated by the claws of a lobster.”

Raf Hollevoet, Handelsgebuurtekring Uitkerke: “The intention of Uitopia is to let people look into companies and around them. What the companies do for nature, the environment and sustainability. We give the companies the opportunity to show how they work towards to the future.”

In the shadow of the Sint-Amandus church, the Bruges artist Wietse also painted old cars. They have been here for a year and are now slowly being overgrown by nature. Nature always trumps man.
