The departure of Robert Lewandowski hit FC Bayern harder than some officials had expected. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß is not one of them. According to his own statement, he expressly warned ex-sports director Hasan Salihamidzic against letting the Poles pull without a plan B in hand.
“I said very clearly to Hasan: If we [Lewandowski] already hand it over, then we have to take money and need a replacement,” Hoeneß reported in the “SZ” interview about a conversation he had with Salihamidzic last summer when he was informed about a possible transfer of Lewandowski to FC Barcelona sat.
The honorary president of the record champions explained why Hoeneß warned of Lewandowski’s departure as follows: “Lewandowski is a security package that guarantees you a minimum of 25 goals per season.” If FC Bayern had kept the Pole, the transfer fee might have slipped through the fingers of Munich, but “we would have had a year longer to find a successor,” said Hoeneß.
FC Bayern is now desperately looking for that successor. Many prominent names have already been associated with the German champions. Hoeneß also knows about the rumors that have been circulating in the gazettes for weeks.
Hoeneß: Erling Haaland at Bayern “I think it’s good”
When asked who he would like to see at his FC Bayern, Hoeneß initially said with a smile: “I think Erling Haaland is good.” Then the Honorary President became a little more serious. When asked about a possible transfer from Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani, he said: “He’s a very good player. But I don’t want to go through any personal details here.”
Shortly thereafter, Hoeneß named another striker that went through his head. “I would also like Victor Osimhen from Naples – but in my opinion he is completely priceless,” said the 71-year-old, who only had a dry “no” to Harry Kane’s suggestion.
