Fatal accident with police car: officer who drove too fast will be prosecuted

A cop is being prosecuted for causing a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a police car. In the accident, last December in Eindhoven, the 31-year-old motorcyclist from this city was killed. The police car had priority. Nevertheless, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) is of the opinion that the agent should be prosecuted. The driver was driving too fast.

The accident happened around noon on December 6 on Dr. Cuyperslaan. An investigation by the National Investigation Department showed that the police car was on its way to a report. The car drove over the Dr. Cuyperslaan when the motorcyclist drove onto that road to cross. The engine was shoveled.

The officer had priority, but he greatly exceeded the maximum speed of 50 kilometers per hour. According to the Public Prosecution Service, there was no necessary or urgent reason for this.

The police officer and the victim’s next of kin have been informed of the OM’s decision.
