After his return to the supervisory board of FC Bayern Munich, the long-time CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge pointed out ex-coach Julian Nagelsmann.
“We had a young coach. And I’ve always been a friend of experience,” said the 67-year-old on Thursday at the SpoBis sports fair in Düsseldorf. The 35 year old Nagelsmann had been put on leave in March.
When asked by when a sports director or sports director should be found for the series champion, he answered Rummenigge: “Yesterday.”
However, he almost ruled out a foreign sports director. “When we had foreign coaches, I realized that we didn’t have any problems with the fact that they didn’t speak perfect German. But our public does,” he said: “There are undoubtedly good people abroad, but we are well advised to focus on Germany.”
Rummenigge said with a smile about his return after a two-year break. “When Uli Hoeneß’s faithful dog eyes look at you, it’s hard to say no. I had to calm my wife down a bit. But she still understands.”
