Alexander Zverev back on the main square at the French Open!

Alexander Zverev will play his second round match at the French Open on Thursday evening on the Philipp-Chatrier court due to the short-term cancellation of Frenchman Gaël Monfils.

This is the first time the 26-year-old tennis Olympic champion has played a game against Slovakian Alex Molcan on the largest court in Paris, where he injured his ankle a year ago in the semifinals against Rafael Nadal in Spain.

Originally, the game was to take place in the third largest stadium – the Court Simonne-Mathieu. The game will not start before 8:15 p.m., the organizers announced late Wednesday evening.

After his spectacular five-set win in the first round, Monfils can no longer play his second game at the classic clay court in Paris against the Dane Holger Rune.

The 36-year-old announced his injury-related cancellation late Wednesday evening at a press conference at the Stade Roland Garros.
