The “immersive exhibit “Imagine Van Gogh” opens next Wednesday 16 in the Pabellón Frers de La Rural, after successfully touring cities around the world. The surely attractive show is developed from the work of the Dutchman Vincent Van Gogh (1853-18919), one of the most recognized artists in the history of universal art by the general public. Shocking aspects of his short biography spice up the well-deserved transcendence of his intense painting of humble themes and vibrant colors, a turning point in post-impressionist art.
Van Gogh worked alone for 10 years and made almost 900 paintings and more than 1,500 drawings; committed suicide at 37. It is said that he sold only one work in life and that he cut off his ear during an argument with his colleague Paul Gauguin (some believe that he was the author of the mutilation and that they agreed to declare otherwise to protect the friend French). He had psychiatric problems for years, aggravated by alcohol abuse and poor nutrition. During his internment in an institution near Paris, where his brother and his protector Theo lived, he painted many of his magnificent 200 works, from which “Imagine Van Gogh” was created.
Here, visitors first view an educational section, then enter a darkened room filled with 3,000 immersive images, which are reshaped, sliced, and recomposed through 48 high-definition laser video projectors. They are displayed from floor to ceiling, on canvases at least eight meters high that add a certain movement to the displayed images, to the sound of exquisite music by composers such as Bach, Mozart, Eric Satie. The artistic director of the exhibition, which arrives in Buenos Aires at the hands of producer Daniel Grinback, is Annabelle Mauger. A formidable dissemination tool, “Imagine Van Gogh” is an experience closer to entertainment than art, which requires stillness and reflection to understand the images and their ideas; to 4/17.
