If Eva Jinek ultimately chooses to return to the NPO, the AvroTros would be a good candidate, says opinion tornado Victor Vlam. “With Antoinette Hertsenberg as table guest.”
It is still one big question mark where Eva Jinek will be seen after the turn of the year. She has indicated that RTL 4 would like to continue with her, but that she herself still has doubts and does not want to make a decision until after she gives birth in September. That is only a few months before her contract expires and therefore very short notice. Does she still want to go back to the NPO?
Seven o’clock lock beckons
Although there is a significant salary drop associated with a return to public broadcasting – Eva currently takes 1.2 million per year, although she has to hand in to RTL, but would go back to 200,000 euros at the NPO anyway – it is not completely ruled out. After all, she can opt for prestige instead of money, and on NPO 1 the seven-hour slot beckons.
NPO 1’s seven-hour slot is now filled by Khalid & Sophie (BNNVARA) and Nadia (VPRO), but neither of these are ratings hits. The KRO-NCRV talk show M was already defunct. “However, I think that broadcaster has started to sail the woke course a bit more since that time. I can imagine that she wants to stay away from that,” says Victor.
No M2.0
Eva does not want to follow in the footsteps of Margriet van der Linden, he says in the podcast The Communicados. “I don’t think she’s waiting for an M 2.0. That could be a flop. She used to work WNL too, but she also left there with a beating argument. They weren’t too happy with the way she left.”
Which broadcaster does suit Eva? “I honestly think that AvroTros would be a very logical candidate. That is a broadcaster that has not yet made a daily talk show. They also did not participate in Op1. And at the same time it is a broadcaster that has now seen that two prominent titles, Radar and Opsporing Requested, have been downgraded.”
Eva as compensation
Both Radar and Opsporing Verzoeken have moved from NPO 1 to NPO 2. “That is really very sensitive there at that broadcaster. In compensation you could say: in return they get a daily talk show, at least part of the year, at seven o’clock on NPO 1 in return. That seems like a pretty logical scenario to me.”
He continues: “Then you could even imagine that Antoinette Hertsenberg can perform there regularly, as she already does in Jinek, to talk about consumer topics, so that Antoinette also has the platform that has been taken away from her a little bit since her program has left for NPO 2.”
Art and culture
And that’s not the only reason, says Victor. “AvroTros is a broadcaster that has art and culture as a pillar. That was also one of the pillars of the Wereld Draait Door. It makes sense to build a kind of talk show that is really different and innovative, but builds on what DWDD once made great.”
It would be a sustainable move for Eva’s career, Victor thinks. “So that she is not only the successor to Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, but also innovates that format in a way that Khalid & Sophie has not really succeeded, despite the fact that the viewing figures are improving.”
Unlikely
Not everyone believes in Eva’s return to public broadcasting. “I wouldn’t really know where to put her at the NPO either. I don’t really think she’s such a eve presenter, to be honest,” said Rob Goossens recently in RTL Boulevard.
Talk show director Bert van der Veer mentions it Instagram also ‘highly unlikely’. “Since she went to RTL in 2020, Eva has also been honored in such a way that going to the NPO would be a major loss. (…) So anyway: RTL. But does she work enough hours for her fee? That will then have to be compensated with projects on Videoland.”
He concludes: “The most boring option is often the most likely.”
