Figures from Westtoer show that tourists booked a total of 400,000 overnight stays, which is an increase of five percent compared to last year. As in 2022, the occupancy rate in the hotels was well above 85%.

Day trippers also found their way to the coast. In total about 270,000, an increase of no less than 15%. The new holiday spread in Wallonia makes the tourist spring off the coast even more interesting.

Lots of events

The many events by the sea took full advantage of the sun. One of those projects is Cabin Art in Sint-Idesbald, near Koksijde. The open-air exhibition is now in its fifteenth edition and this year was inspired by the history of Sint-Idesbald.

Families settled in the seaside town in the nineteenth century, a century later, and certainly after WWII, tourists also found their way to Koksijde. This resulted in a remarkable evolution of the buildings in Sint-Idesbald, and that is what Cabin Art wants to show through photographs, paintings and drawings.
