‘Engine trouble’ over Iran at KLM aircraft on its way to Schiphol and deviates to Dubai

A KLM Boeing 777-200 that was on its way from the Thai capital Bangkok to Schiphol, diverted above Iran to Dubai this afternoon. According to the website Aviation Herald, there were problems with an engine, which was then shut down by the pilots. The aircraft was then further impacted on one engine. KLM calls it a technical defect.

Flight KL876 had already been traveling from Bangkok to Schiphol for more than six hours when it sent out a distress signal around 1.10 pm Dutch time. The aircraft then flew over Iran. Because of the suspected engine failure the plane descended from 10 kilometers to about 6 kilometers and curved towards Dubai. The plane landed there around 3 p.m.

According to a KLM spokesperson, the passengers are being rebooked, but they can no longer travel today. Hotels in Dubai have been arranged for them. According to KLM, the safety of passengers and crew has not been compromised.
