Depeche Mode played the opening concert in Germany today (May 26th) on the Festwiese in Leipzig. Around 70,000 spectators were expected and Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and the live musicians who had traveled with them did not disappoint.

World in My Eyes is dedicated to Andy Fletcher
As with previous shows, the band dedicated the song “World in My Eyes” to their late friend and colleague Andy Fletcher. On May 26, 2023, the song was particularly important because the concert took place on the first anniversary of the musician’s death.

Peter Gordeno has been on tour since the 90s – Depeche Mode are a well-rehearsed group, but with the death of Fletch they were forced to reorient themselves. The last song of the encore finally sounds shortly after 11 p.m. The more than two-hour concert ends with “Personal Jesus”, during which many viewers probably followed the wise saying and album title “Memento mori – be aware of your mortality” and enjoyed the warm spring evening intensively.
