Christian parties Hoogeveen do not like extending shopping hours on Sunday

Can they stay open longer or not? The council of the municipality of Hoogeveen proposes that bakers, butchers, supermarkets and poulterers may be open all day on Sunday. The proposal was discussed tonight during the council meeting, but not every party likes the plan. The Christian parties in particular see bears on the road.

“I am saddened by this proposal,” says party leader Brand van Rijn of the SGP. He is supported by the ChristenUnie. “Sunday is a day of rest and that is very important in our eyes”, Koen Meesters continues. “We mainly look at the economic benefits with this proposal, but it is also important to look at people. Rest and relaxation are both just as important.”
