The descendants of the German couple Ludwig Dannheisser and Johanna Dannheisser-Bloch stand almost speechless on the grounds of the former camp Westerbork. They recently discovered that their relatives, victims of the Holocaust, have been given a face. According to them, it cannot be missed: the couple appears in the Westerbork film with images from 1944.
Lia Parisien-Dannheisser, who only knew her great-grandparents from photographs, can hardly comprehend it. “Very impressive to actually see the train that transported them to Auschwitz.”
She realized within seconds that the couple, shown for a total of six seconds, is being filmed. For the first time in her life, the Holocaust took hold of Parisien-Dannheisser, moving her to tears. “I never had a personal picture, until now. Unbelievable that I am here, it moves me.”
