Brych as a referee in action

The Greek champions AEK Athens also triumphed in the cup final despite being outnumbered. Coach Matías Almeyda’s team won 2-0 (1-0) against PAOK Thessaloniki on Wednesday evening. The German referee Felix Brych sent AEK professional Lazaros Rota off with a red card in the 6th minute after an emergency brake.

Harold Moukoudi (26′) and Paolo Fernandes (90′ + 2) scored the goals and ensured the Athens’ 16th cup victory, which also made the third double after 1939 and 1978 perfect. For security reasons, the final was closed to the public, only invited guests and officials were present at the Panthessaliko Stadio in Volos.
