Two passengers were injured in an accident in Hoofddorp this afternoon. A car left Bennebroekerweg and ended up upside down in an adjacent ditch. Bystanders came to the aid of the driver and passenger while waiting for the fire brigade.
In addition to ambulance and police, fire divers and an air ambulance were also called. Two bystanders who reportedly saw the accident happen immediately jumped into the water to get the victims out of the car.
They had the victims out of the car so quickly that the fire brigade had no choice but to pull them onto dry land, after which they were checked in the ambulance. They were eventually taken to hospital for treatment, a police spokesperson confirmed.
The car was pulled out of the water. Police will investigate how the accident happened. The road was closed for a while due to the accident, but has since reopened.
