Record national player Lothar Matthäus cannot imagine saying goodbye to Thomas Müller at Bayern Munich.
“As a former Bayern player, I would prefer it if he ended his career at FC Bayern,” Matthäus told the TV station “RTL”: “But of course he wants to play. He knows he can play for a few more years . He would prefer to play for Bayern, right from the start. He probably can’t hear anymore that there are no Müller games. You don’t want to hear that. It hurts you.”
He was surprised that Thomas Tuchel didn’t bring him like that, said Matthäus, with a view to the short playing times of the 2014 world champion: “Especially in a situation like this, Müller would be the right one, who drives the team, who organizes them, who has this positive Has energy. That’s why I believe that after the last league game of the season we have to talk openly with each other and Thomas Müller shows his future.”
In the 2-1 win in Bremen on Saturday, the 33-year-old was initially back on the bench. “Either FC Bayern needs him and he is satisfied with the new role and stays. If not, there are certainly options to go abroad or to change in the Bundesliga,” added Matthäus.
