In Brussels, the bicycle has become the subject of a cultural battle. The government is trying to do something about all traffic congestion, but against the bicycle plans a motley coalition has formed of the conservative right (shops must be accessible), the extreme left (don’t take away poor people’s cars) and migrant organizations.
