A lot of water after heavy showers, but then you can enjoy canoeing

Thunderstorms with a huge amount of water, the east of Brabant was ravaged by a good example of storm on Sunday afternoon. Luckily it didn’t last too long. Several streets were flooded in no time. And what do you do when there is so much rain? You grab your canoe and sail through the canals, erm streets.

The bad weather was reason for the KNMI to issue code yellow. Locally there was a lot of rain, including in Nuenen. A group of young people heard about the flooded streets and wanted to see it. “In many places the water was already gone, which caused disappointment. But then we saw the water here at the bottom of the tunnel,” says one of them.

The boys didn’t hesitate for a moment and got two canoes out of the garage at a father’s house. Then they happily paddled through the water in the bicycle tunnel under the Europalaan. “We also have one from a nice lady bottles beer, we’re having a great time, this is a great Sunday!”

A lot of rain fell in the area between Tilburg, Den Bosch and Eindhoven on Sunday afternoon. In Eindhoven, several tunnels could no longer discharge the water, streets filled up and football matches in Veldhoven, Nuenen and Wintelre were cancelled.

“We think it’s a pity if the tunnel is empty soon.”

Lightning struck in several places, such as two houses in Son en Best. The houses were damaged, but no injuries were reported.

The heavy showers had disappeared at the beginning of the evening, according to the latest weather reports, heavy showers can still fall locally, but code yellow is a thing of the past.

The men in Nuenen waited until the water in the tunnel subsided before they went home. The help of the fire brigade also came in handy here. “Although we are sorry if the tunnel is empty soon, we could be here for a day.”
