Two close family members of King Charles III. play no part in the coronation.

Both his younger son Prince Harry and his brother Prince Andrew are present at the ceremony in Westminster Abbey. Afterwards, however, they are missing both in the ceremonial coronation procession back to Buckingham Palace and in the traditional appearance of the Royal Family on the balcony of London Castle.

Both men are no longer “working royals”, meaning they do not represent the monarchy on official occasions. Harry had resigned from his royal duties years ago and had moved to the United States with his wife, Duchess Meghan. Since then, the 38-year-old has repeatedly criticized the palace, making serious allegations against his older brother Prince William and stepmother Queen Camilla.

It is questionable that his short visit to his old homeland will noticeably improve the relationship. His participation had already been discussed for a long time. Meghan remains at home in California with their children Prince Archie, who celebrates his fourth birthday on Saturday, and Princess Lilibet.

Andrew largely retired from public view in November 2019 over his involvement in an abuse scandal. The 63-year-old strictly rejects allegations by an American that he sexually abused her as a teenager more than 20 years ago. Shortly before a civil trial in the United States, he agreed with the plaintiff on a settlement that is believed to be worth millions.

Andrew, always considered her favorite son, was stripped of all honorary military titles by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Charles has asked his brother to move into a smaller house on the grounds of Windsor Castle. He is said to have canceled the office in Buckingham Palace.
