To mark the coronation of King Charles, British fashion house Barbour has announced a new biodiversity project with The Prince’s Countryside Fund (PCF). Barbour, which has supported the PCF since 2010, will fund a biodiversity pilot project in the North East of England. For this purpose, a workshop for up to twenty small family livestock farms is to be held in autumn 2023 in order to deepen the farms’ knowledge of biological diversity and ensure their long-term sustainability.
The project was created in response to the increasing pressure on the country’s importance of prioritizing nature, increasing biodiversity and nurturing wildlife in the face of biodiversity loss. More than 80 percent of farmers surveyed by the PCF said they want to do more to protect the environment to make their farms more sustainable and viable for the future, but many lack knowledge and experience in this area.
Barbour Chair, Dame Margaret Barbour, said: “We are delighted to be working with the PCF on this important initiative to support sustainable farming in the UK and educate PCF farmers. The project not only helps farmers ensure a thriving on-farm environment for generations to come, but also aligns with Barbour’s sustainability commitments to protect nature, reduce carbon emissions and foster thriving and prosperous communities.”
