Sixteen apartments for status holders will be built in the De Noorderkroon apartment complex in Roden. The houses are suitable for three people and the first residents will move in in July.
The apartment complex, owned by housing cooperative Woonborg, is partially empty and will eventually be replaced by new construction. Sixteen apartments are being renovated in the complex that are intended for refugees who have received a residence permit in the Netherlands. The apartments are empty, so that the pressure on the waiting list for social rental housing is not increased any further.
Every six months, the national government determines how many permit holders must give each municipality a place to live. The number differs per municipality, because the total number of inhabitants and the current demand from COA are taken into account. There are currently no applications from the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA). As a result, not all apartments are rented out in one go from July.
Due to the increase in asylum seekers, many status holders are forced to stay in COA reception locations, because there is not enough accommodation available.
