Wervik assures itself of preservation on the final day
On the final day, KE Wervik, which has no match next week because Anzegem stopped earlier this season, still had to work hard against Aalter. The West Flemings are eleventh after a real remont after New Year, but only winning against number twelve Aalter is good enough not to have to play jump-offs for preservation.
Difficult match
A tense start to the match resulted in a lot of fighting. We had to wait for big opportunities until well into the first half. Goalkeeper Rogiest fires a long shot from Vandeputte, Vandamme has his fingers crossed and scores. 1-0 on the stroke of half time.
In the second half more of the same, few opportunities played and many duels. Aalter comes close to scoring a few times, but the linesman, goalkeeper Olievier and the crossbar keep the 1-0 score. And those who don’t score themselves, get the lid on the nose. A few minutes before closing, Louis Vandepitte conjures up a wonderful dribble, the assists on Vromant are flawless, 2-0.
From “due to the absence of some key players, we started with 6/36” to “very clever how we recovered”
KE Wervik is thus assured of a new season in third amateur on the final matchday, although this did not go smoothly, as coach Jakob Crombez also knows: “We missed four key players at the start of the season. We couldn’t count on our central duo in the back for the first fifteen match days. Top transfer Tamsin also falls out before the start of the season. Then we only take six points from 12 games and you know that you can’t leave anything behind lie.”
But the return of captain Jens Pante, among others, did the team good, resulting in a real remonte. “Especially when you see what series we put down in the beginning, it is very good what we have done since January and February. So it is a huge relief”says Jens Pante.
