The singer-songwriter covered the grunge band’s most famous song live. Why? It’s simple: “I’m a huge Chris Cornell fan”.
King Princess covered Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” for Triple J’s “Like a Version” segment. She performed with her band at the Triple-J studio and gave an interview in connection with it.
“It’s a song I’ve heard since I was a little kid,” she said afterwards. “My parents have them [Soundgarden, Anm. d. Red.] ’92 play the Lollapalooza and I think I like to revisit songs that meant a lot to me as a kid and that inspired me to make music.” She also ennobled Soundgarden, the instrumentalization of the song and above all their singer, who died in 2017: “I’m a huge Chris Cornell fan”. The track he wrote originally appeared on the 1994 album SUPERUNKNOWN.
It was not the 24-year-old’s first appearance on the Australian radio station. She was a guest back in 2018 and covered The White Stripes’ “Fell In Love With A Girl” with her band. “I love Jack White. And I’m gay. So I thought it would be appropriate,” she said of her performance five years ago. The multi-instrumentalist released her second long-player HOLD ON BABY last year. In March her song “The Bend” was released, which she also wrote for “Like a version“ performed.
