“This is really boundless behavior,” sighs Ralf Buiter, director of the Dr. Nassau College, Quintus location. Today final exam students at the Asser school had their last day of school, but a final exam stunt threw a spanner in the works. Students set off smoke bombs in the auditorium and packages of flour and eggs were thrown against the walls.
Director Buiter saw no other option than to cancel the festivities of the last day of school. “Of course something can always happen, but now it actually went wrong from the first moment. The alarm system went off by igniting three smoke pots and the school was made dirty with flour, which contained another substance, and eggs. Also graffiti was sprayed on the building. The situation was no longer manageable.”
Buiter emphasizes that it concerns a ‘very small group’ that has crossed the line. “Then I am talking about the instigators, because there are also students who go along with the wrong behavior. That is the psychology of the masses,” said the school director. “People think that on such a day everything is suddenly allowed. It is apparently the phase our society is in, because it has also gotten out of hand at other schools in the country this week.”
Buiter describes the misdemeanor of the students as vandalism. “Fortunately, the situation has not been unmanageable. We were able to solve it ourselves. But it is such a shame, because it is a day you look forward to. The students came to school dressed up and the assault course was ready. But at the same time you also know that it will be exciting whether all agreements will be fulfilled, so that clearly did not work out.”
The school board will review CCTV footage of the incidents. “If it is clear to us which students are behind the vandalism, they can certainly expect consequences. Moreover, we will seriously reconsider whether we can hold an exam stunt in this way. I don’t want to put an end to it immediately in all emotions, but it will have to go differently from now on.”
